Background
Sir John became Chair of NZVIF on 1 January 2008. Sir John has an extensive background in both finance and banking, as well as other diversified interests involving sport and other sectors of the community. He was formerly the chief executive of the ANZ National Bank.
He has held advisory and governance roles for successive governments since the 1980s. He has held positions on various boards during his career and was involved in the restructuring of New Zealand Steel, was Chairman of Petrocorp, the New Zealand Bankers Association, World Wide Fund for Nature and the Prime Minister’s Multi Party New Zealand Employment Task Force.
Sir John currently also has a directorship on the board of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
