In 2009, the Law and Economics Consulting Group (LECG) with the assistance of Josh Lerner, the Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking at Harvard Business School provided update on the development of the New Zealand venture capital market, together with guidance on future policy direction.

In 2005, the Ministry for Research, Science and Technology commissioned LECG - a consulting services firm – to prepare a study of venture capital in New Zealand. The Valuation of Early-Stage Investments in New Zealand
This report uses data collected from funding rounds invested into 186 companies between early 2004 and December 2010. This is the first report of its kind looking that looks at the New Zealand market and it provides a significant base for future research and analysis.

Young Company Finance
NZVIF – along with Economic Development Association of New Zealand (EDANZ), the New Zealand Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (NZVCA) and the Angel Association New Zealand - produce Young Company Finance (YCF). YCF provides our local private equity market with a regular source of deal information, industry news, and features on specific deals or people.
This initiative is an important part of the market development and education for the New Zealand private equity market, and is published quarterly.

An American Angel's Perspective on the Entrepreneurial Landscape in New Zealand
In June 2010 Bill Payne, one of the United States' foremost angel investors, concluded a five month stay in New Zealand as the BNZ University of Auckland Business School Entrepreneur In Residence advising investors, entrepreneurs and students. Mr Payne prepared a report for the New Zealand Venture Investment Fund providing reflections based on his observations of New Zealand entrepreneurs and angel groups during his visit.

New Zealand Private Equity Returns 1994-2010
Unlisted businesses make up a significant proportion of enterprise in New Zealand and are a major driver of growth in the New Zealand economy. Private equity provides access to this investment opportunity. Yet many investors, including institutional investors, have been reluctant to invest due to the limited transparency on the performance of private equity, as an investment class, in New Zealand. This research seeks to address that by investigating the returns from private equity investment into New Zealand companies over a 16 year period.
